System requirements
All pdScript family products are designed for Microsoft Windows platform. They have no special hardware nor software requirements. They are distributed either as a standard setup packages or in the form of "zip archive" for portable installations (see downloads section).
Hardware:
IBM-compatible PC
512 MB RAM
25 MB free disk space
Operating system:
Microsoft Windows 2000/XP/Vista/7
Microsoft Windows Server 2000/2003/2008
Note: When the user is not logged on (server mode), you can use only the console variant of pdScript interpreter - pdScriptCL.exe or pdScriptECL.dll.
Installation
When using a standard setup package, the sample scripts, templates and languages are installed to the "Documents" and "Application data" folders of Windows system, according to the Microsoft recommendation. So, if you want to have all the files of the product in one place, it is better to use a portable installation variant.
Standard installation of pdScript
By downloading and installing the pdScriptSetup.exe package, you get the fully functional Precision Delphi Script interpreter and you can execute your scripts. On Windows Vista/7 you must allow user rights elevation to administrative rights during installation. If you have no admin rights at all, the product will be automatically installed in a portable mode.
The standard setup package helps you to immediately register the file extensions (suffixes) for use with pdScript interpreter.
Portable installation of pdScript
By downloading the pdScript.zip archive and by unpacking its content to desired folder, you also get the fully functional Precision Delphi Script interpreter, but you have to manually register the file extensions (suffixes) for use with pdScript interpreter. This step is not really required, if you don't want to execute the scripts directly from Windows environment (ie. by double-clicking the script files).
Note for updating your pdScript portable installation:
If you have edited your dbxdrivers.ini file before (you have got your own dbExpress drivers),
please backup the appropriate files (.ini, .dll, etc.) before unpacking the archive and restore
your dbExpress configuration for pdScript after that.
Standard installation of pdScript IDE
By downloading and installing the pdScriptIDESetup.exe package, you get both the Precision Delphi Script IDE and Precision Delphi Script interpreter at once. So you can comfortably edit and execute your scripts as described in the pdScript IDE and in the pdScript calling conventions topics of help reference.
The standard setup package helps you to immediately register the file extensions (suffixes) for use with pdScript interpreter (executing the scripts) and with pdScript IDE (editing the scripts).
On Windows Vista/7 you must allow user rights elevation to administrative rights during installation. If you have no admin rights at all, the product will be automatically installed in a portable mode.
Portable installation of pdScript IDE
By downloading the pdScriptIDE.zip archive and by unpacking its content to desired folder, you also get the both pdScript IDE and pdScript interpreter, but you have to manually register the file extensions (suffixes) for use with these products. You can perform this step easily in the pdScript IDE Options dialog, but keep in mind that on Windows Vista/7 you have to run the pdScript IDE As an Administrator to successfully register the extensions).
Note for updating your pdScript IDE portable installation:
If you have edited your dbxdrivers.ini file before (you have got your own dbExpress drivers),
please backup the appropriate files (.ini, .dll, etc.) before unpacking the archive and restore
your dbExpress configuration for pdScript after that.
